Bob Opotzner

Fiscal Responsibility

The following statement was released by Bob Opotzner and published in The Ridgefield Press on October 30, 1997:

Since my August election to the school board, I have met hundreds of concerned Ridgefield residents. I found consistent themes after inquiring about their key educational issues.

Ridgefield residents want timely resolution to school overcrowding and space issues, at reasonable costs, after thorough analysis of key facts. They want a school board that acts professionally to resolve educational issues, without needless bickering.

My opponent Fred Ball's recent comments indicate that he will be part of the problem, not part of the solution. I personally voted against 8-2 and spoke publicly against it prior to the referendum since it was a zoning and not an education issue. Mr. Ball misstating my position is further indication that he does not know the facts!

Many important facts needed to resolve overcrowding are not yet available. I will do what I think is best for the entire school population. I am open-minded enough to accept either grade configuration. I will make my decision only after receiving the engineer's site analysis, building costs, construction time frame, and clearly understanding which approach best meets our educational goals.

Voters, be wary of candidates claiming to have answers to overcrowding now! We cannot afford another mistake that will waste taxpayer dollars.

Vote for Bob Opotzner - to obtain informed, pro-education and fiscally responsible decision making!
